Rainbow's track record has been recognized by a cash injection of £2.5m to allow the Central Science Laboratory, York and five other world-leading public sector research institutes (Veterinary Laboratories Agency, Health Protection Agency, Scottish Crop Research Institute, Macaulay Land Use Research Institute and National Physical Laboratory) to join the existing partners in the fund. These organisations have already identified more than 100 technologies with commercial potential in the fields of environmental and crop protection, agronomic and alternatives sustainability, land use optimisation, disease assessment and control, food sciences, zoonoses and public health.
The funding comes from the Public Sector Research Exploitation fund, set up to help public sector organisations market their research. Rainbow's award is the single largest in this round of PSRE funding and takes the total fund size to £8.5m.
