23 June 2008: the Rainbow Seed Fund has been awarded a £1.5m share of the UK Government’s Public Sector Research Exploitation (PSRE) fund. This award will support the very early stages of business formation from ideas emerging out of scientific breakthroughs and research. The successful bid was announced today by Science and Innovation Minister, Ian Pearson, at a stakeholder event at the Natural History Museum in London. Download press release.

9 June 2008: Procarta Biosystems, the company spun-out of the John Innes Centre in 2007 to develop a technology designed to defeat antibiotic-resistant superbugs, has received significant seed funding from the Rainbow Seed Fund and coinvestors. The funding will allow Procarta to further develop its DNA decoy technique, which aims to restore antibiotic efficacy against resistant superbugs, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE). 14th April 2008:
P2i Ltd attracts investment from Unilever Ventures to accelerate commercial roll-out of its revolutionary ion-mask™, the revolutionary super-hydrophobic treatment. The additional funding will allow P2i to accelerate the introduction of its ground-breaking ion-mask™ technology across its chosen market segments and expand its operations to maximise market penetration.

January 2008: Welwyn, UK … Rainbow portfolio company Novacta Biosystems, a UK-based anti-infective therapeutics company, announces that the Wellcome Trust, the UK’s largest medical research charity, has awarded it £3.5 million as part of the Trust’s Strategic Translational Award programme. Novacta will use the award to progress development of a drug which, it is hoped, will help combat hospital-based Clostridium difficile (C.difficile) infections.

January 2008:  Microbial Solutions has raised £1.2 million to commercialise its innovative wastewater treatment technology, which uses a patent- protected collection of ‘clever’ non-pathogenic bacteria to cleanse toxic metal working fluids from the engineering industry.  The investment round was led by Oxford Capital Partners investing alongside H2O Venture Partners, who also provided management input to develop the Company.  The Rainbow Seed Fund, the Company’s initial investor, committed further capital in this round.  Microbial Solutions has also announced a partnership with Houghton Europe, the leading provider of industrial fluids, which will see the two firms provide a complete supply and treatment process to major manufacturing companies using industrial fluids. November 2007:
Rainbow celebrates 5 years. Science Minister Ian Pearson told an audience of investors, Rainbow portfolio companies and entrepreneurs in London “"The Rainbow Seed Fund has made substantial progress over the last five years and is really contributing in transferring scientific advances from the laboratories and into the rapidly changing competitive economy. "Our goal is to increase the economic impact of the research base through commercialisation - from the lab into the real world. October 2007:
CellCentric receives funding from Takeda Research Investment, Inc. Existing shareholders including Morningside and NESTA contribute to Series A funding alongside the endorsement from a corporate pharmaceutical investor. Read the press release.

July 2007:
Close Ventures leads £4.36M funding into Oxsensis

April 2007: Oxsensis wins the Individual and small businesses Carbon Trust Innovation Award for its simultaneous temperature and pressure sensors which will help improve the energy efficiency of cars, planes and power stations

March 2007:
MDA takes a controlling interest in Orbital Optics Limited (OOL). MDA, a public company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, employs more than 3,000 people in locations across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The Company's common shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Rainbow exited the majority of its shares in OOL as part of the transaction. Press release.

January 2007: Rainbow makes further investment in water monitoring company EcoAlert and Karen Morgan, former member of the boards of the Environment Agency and the National Rivers Authority, joins as Chairman

December 2006
: Rainbow invests in ProKyma Ltd., a new spin out from Dstl exploting ultrasonic particle separation technology

deploys scanners designed to detect suicide bombers by looking through clothing at the Canary Wharf complex in London, site of Britain’s tallest skyscraper. Read the Sunday Times article
